How do we help autistic teens prepare for life?
The answer to that question surely is to provide information, resources, and support for the students based on the way in which they view the world.
This means using resources specifically created for teenagers with special needs whose reading age is around seven. In this way issues can be addressed that are completely relevant to the students’ view of the world and presented in a way that the students find easy to read.
Such resources allow you to focus with the students on issues that they may face – such as Work Experience, Making Sense of Money, Relationships, Scary Things, Teen Issues, Everyday Challenges, and Simple Meals.
Each topic has a teacher activity pack complete with a CD of E-books, interactive activities and quizzes, whiteboard resources and resource sheets, plus a series of readers. All the readers are also available as iPad apps. Go to the App store to download the free app and one free title.
The teachers’ book also includes around 100 A4 pages of additional resources including keyword flashcards, word searches and spot the difference pictures.
The complete set of resources containing two copies of each of the six readers, the complete teacher book, and the CD Rom is available for £139 plus VAT. Individual elements from the pack are also available separately.
